Hospitality

Because of the generous support of University of Utah President Ruth Watkins, College of Humanities Dean Stuart Culver, and Communication Department Chair Danielle Endres, it is our pleasure to offer hospitality throughout the tournament. Beginning on Friday, we will serve a light breakfast (bagels, donuts, kolaches, fruit, coffee, water, and tea) each morning, with coffee service being maintained throughout the day. We will also make additional granola bars and fruit available throughout the day for all guests of the tournament. We also hope you will make use of our tournament gift: a reusable, insulated mug to take advantage of this hospitality and to help us reduce waste during your time on our campus.

Finally, we want to remind you that lunch service will be provided on Friday and Saturday for all registered tournament participants. These meals will be served out of the dining area on the lower floor of Gardner Commons. Meal tickets will be provided at registration. If you lose your meal ticket, please contact the tournament tab room.

Keep in mind, lunch on Sunday is on your own. For suggestions of locations near campus and around Salt Lake City, check out our resources page.

Driving Directions

From the Airport Area: Out of airport, follow signs toward Park City/Cheyenne.  You will pass through downtown on the freeway as it curves right and then left.  When you arrive at 1300E, exit the freeway and turn left onto 1300E. Go north until you reach 100S and turn right at the northwest corner of campus. Follow this street onto the U of Utah campus. The street winds around the north side of campus (it changes as it winds, ending up as North Campus Drive). Take a right, following signs to the Student Union or Gardner Commons. We recommend parking near the student union as the primary tournament buildings, Gardner Commons (GC) and Languages & Communication (LNCO) are located very nearby. Parking information is available below.

From the Downtown Area: Head east on 400 South, noting that it will curve to the right and then to the left as you head up the hill. When you reach the top, turn left onto 1300 East. Take 1300 East until you reach 100 South; turn right onto 100 South.

Parking on Campus:On Thursday and Friday, you will need to purchase a permit to park on campus. On Saturday and Sunday, you can park for free in any parking place that is not designated with a sign as reserved 24 hours a day. There are two ways to purchase parking on campus:

Option 1: Purchase a guest permit online to access “A” lots, which are located throughout campus and will get you as close to buildings as possible. This is the most affordable option at around $8-10 per day. Guest permits can be purchased here.

Option 2: Park in an hourly lot and pay by the hour or for the day. These lots are also located throughout campus. Payment is provided by kiosk and requires a credit card. This option costs about $20/day.
