John R. Park Debate Society Enjoys a Successful Season Opener in Idaho
The John R. Park Debate Society split their team to attend two tournaments September 27-29, 2024, working to maximize experience for new and returning students.
Eight team members, half of whom are in their first year of collegiate competition, traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho to participate in the Fran Tanner Invitational at College of Southern Idaho. At the tournament, the team faced competition from 11 colleges and universities, including Boise State University, Idaho State University, and in-state rivals Weber State University. The Debate Society finished the tournament with 10 final-round placings.
Two students traveled to Rice University, competing against top teams across the country. The students were one win short of breaking into elimination rounds.
The team plans to build on this early success at their next tournament, the Jannese Davidson Memorial Tournament at Concordia University – Irvine on October 11-13.
