John R. Park Debate Society Shines at Concordia University-Irvine
The John R. Park Debate Society continued its Fall 2024 season taking ten students to the the Jannese Davidson Memorial Tournament hosted by Concordia University-Irvine. Over the weekend, members of the Debate Society competed against 24 colleges and universities. Students competed in 21 elimination rounds and placed 2nd overall in 4-year Team Sweepstakes, with every member of the team bringing home an award. The Debate Society also won three of the top five Ninja-Pixie Sweepstakes awards, representing the students at the tournament who earned the most sweepstakes points competing in both debate and individual events. Amy Gao, a first-year student, was the top Ninja-Pixie, earning more points individually than some team earns collectively. The Debate Society has a break before continuing the fall season competition on November 1-3 at the Paul Winters Invitational, hosted by the University of the Pacific.
