November 2021 Wrap Up
John R. Park Debate Society Continues to Thrive as Fall Competition Moves Online
The John R. Park Debate Society’s 2021-2022 competitive season moved online with three virtual tournaments in the first two weeks of November. First, the team had one debater entered in the Illinois State University Redbird Debate Tournament on November 6-7. Then, several students entered the OATS 3 (Online Asynchronous Tournament Series) hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University during the week of November 8-12. The John R. Park Debate Society wrapped up their early November run with the Mahaffey Memorial Forensics Tournament hosted by Linfield College the weekend of November 12-14. Across these tournaments nineUniversity of Utah students won 20awards, competing against over 65schools from across the nation. Notably, senior Grace Osusky was awarded the Singletary Award for outstanding Debate Speaker from the Mahaffey Memorial Tournament, an award the recognizes the best individual debate competitor from across all of the disciplines of debating competition offered by the tournament. The team will continue its season in December at the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association fall championships.
