John R. Park Debate Society Achieves 5th Consecutive Top Ten Finish

The John R. Park Debate Society hosted the National Parliamentary Debate Association National Championships on March 14-17, 2019 at the University of Utah. Featuring 34 universities and colleges, the event marks the culminating competition for the season in the team's primary debate event. Five teams representing the University of Utah participated in the tournament that featured more than 200 debaters. After three days of competition, the University of Utah emerged as the 9th ranked team both at the tournament and in the organization's season-long sweepstakes competition. With this achievement, the University of Utah earned the distinction of being the only program to maintain a top 10 ranking in both tournament and season-long competition over the last five years. The team will continue its series of national championship tournaments in Detroit, MI at the National Speech Competition on March 22-25, 2019.
